Just a Quiet Sunday

We finally had a beautiful Sunday! The sun was out, there was a light breeze the weather was in the upper 60's... it was GREAT. Matt, Zach and I did not let this day go to waste, we drove up to Happy Hollow for a little hike.
Happy Hollows is about 15 minutes up Sugar Loaf Mt. in Roanoke. During the summer it absolutely breath taking. There is a small creek that runs through it along with benches and over-looks. The hike it's self is only about 30-45 minutes at most.
Zach was all over the place he loved it! He was pointing things out and talking about the sticks, mud, trees, rocks water, you name it. It was like he had never been outside before it was so much fun! At one point there was a couple who passes us on the trail & Zach said hello as they passed. When they were a few feet ahead of us Zach called out (not loud enough for them to hear thank goodness) "Man- wait!" "Hurry Daddy, run". He moved as fast as his little legs could go which is pretty fast for a two year old.

Towards the end Zach started to get tired and needed a little help from daddy. Matt carried him back down and he was fast asleep by the time we got home! It was a great way to spend a Sunday with to 2 best people in my life!

Now that I am home full time again I am finally getting around to things that I have put off. Some I have put off for a few weeks or months others.. are closer to a year. Here is a look at what I have been working on..

I didn't come up with the ideas (not that creative...just good at faking it) but I thought they were so cute I had to copy them and add my own twist.

Best Husband Ever!

When we first got married matt and I bought these micro-fiber couches that are where very nice. Then Zach happened to them. They have crayon, juice, greasy finger prints and that's all on one cushion. So my sweet husband offered to buy me slipcovers when I found some I liked... well I DID! My living room looks so great. It's brighter and so much cleaner I LOVE it!

Is it just me or does little boys hair seem to grow twice as fast everyone else's, especially little boys who are afraid of clippers? Today was hair cut day in my house! First I had to bribe Zach to sit in the chair- I gave him chocolate and promised him ice cream. Second was getting him to let me turn on clippers this required me to shave my arm to show him it didn't hurt (yes I have a bald spot on my arm now) Third I bribe again- this time it had to be something more elaborate, a toy of his choosing. And guess what my little angel chose... Thomas the train, which for those of you who aren't up to date on little boy toys they are about $20.00 for 1 engine that does nothing. So during the hair cut we talked about his thomas train the whole time to keep him focused.

The end result... only having to spend 2 minutes styling his hair before we run out the door as opposed to 5 or 6ish.

"Zachy Tylr"

I have officially finished school (pat on the back) which mean I get to stay home with Zachary full time again. I missed being home with him and getting to see him play, learn and grow! Every day is different with him, it's like he is changing over night into this older version of my baby :o(.
Now with all that being said this past week was my first week being home full time. Zach was into everything! I went from mess to mess cleaning up after him it was a long week to say the least. By the end of the week Zach was no longer referring to him self as Zachy or even baby. If you ask my 2 year old he will tell you his name is Zachy Tylr. From this you can tell some one spent a lot of time in time out.
One great (and I mean GREAT) thing we gained from all this: Today Zach was playing with his trucks and cars but decided he wanted to play with his trains so he stopped and put all his trucks, cars, buses, planes and dinosaurs away (without me) then asked he to help him with his train set! Made all last week worth the battle!

Brownies

Zach has become my little kitchen helper (or in some cases my kitchen nightmare). Today seemed like a good brownie day so I made brownies. My little helper didn't care to much for the mixing part of the project but he was a big fan of cleanup.

Zachary vs. eating yogurt with a spoon

Zachary has recently become interested in eating with utensils. So we have been giving them to him at meal time. He has mastered the fork pretty well and can hold his own... then there is the spoon. We give him the spoon with dry cereal, with raisins, Gerber puffs, ect. He couldn't get anything to stay on the spoon long enough to get to his mouth so I had the AMAZING idea to give him yogurt thinking it'd stay on the spoon and wouldn't slip off and he'd do great!
Well he did keep the yogurt on the spoon and some did manage to get into his mouth but he then had different idea's for his yogurt. Apparently yogurt makes great finger paint.
